Access: 004 : Operation must use an updateable query

Error Message:

ErrNo: -2147155969
ErrDescription: Operation must use an updateable query.

Scenario 1: 

The cause of this issue is that the logged in Window's user does not have permission to access the SOHODOX Databases folder. You can follow the below steps to provide permission for Windows User's on the SOHODOX Databases folder.

Step 1:

Sharing the folder

  • Go to to the Sohodox Databases folder, by default it is located in C:\Sohodox Databases. Right-click the 'Sohodox Databases' folder and click on Properties. 
  • Click on the Sharing tab. From the Sharing tab, click on the 'Share' button.
  • Select the Windows users from the drop-down list and click on the Add button. 
  • Select the Permission Level for each of these users. It is recommended to provide 'Read/Write' permission for all the user's. Click on the Share button.


Step 2:

Providing Share permissions


  • Right-click the 'Sohodox Databases' folder and click on Properties tab.
  • Click on the Sharing tab. Click on the 'Advanced Sharing...' button. The Advanced Sharing dialog will be launched.
  • Click on the 'Permissions' button. Now add the Windows users and give the user 'Full Control' permission.
  • Click on OK. Click on OK again to close the Advanced Sharing dialog.

*Note : In case, the above steps does not resolve the issue; then most likely the user does not permission to access the Folder and Files in the Sohodox Databases folder. You can follow the below steps to resolve this.


Scenario 2: 

Files & Folders in the Sohodox Databases Folder do not have permissions for Windows user

Steps:

  • Close SOHODOX. Browse and open the Sohodox Databases folder from Windows Explorer.
  • Right-click on 'MainDB' folder and select Properties.
  • Navigate to Security Tab and check if the Windows user has modify permission on the MainDB folder.
  • You will have to follow the above steps to verify if 'MainDB.gxdb' file have proper permission for Windows Users.
